KORSCH Sheryl October 22 1948 — June 19 2021

KORSCH, Sheryl
October 22, 1948 — June 19, 2021
Sheryl Korsch, loving wife and best friend to her husband, Heinz, for 45 years, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 19, 2021. She suffered a stroke several weeks earlier resulting in declining health until she joined her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in Heaven.
Born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Sheryl immigrated to Kelowna, BC after marrying Heinz Korsch on June 5, 1970 in Chancellor, South Dakota. Her schooling included Turner County Elementary school, Lennox High school, and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Sioux Falls College in 1970. Her first teaching position with local School District #23 was a Grade 4 class in Okanagan Centre. Over her 34-year career, she taught grades 1 – 4 and led many music classes and choirs at multiple elementary schools in Kelowna before retiring in 2004.
Sheryl accepted Jesus as her personal saviour at an early age at the First Baptist Church in Chancellor, South Dakota. A highlight of her life was when she joined the God’s Volunteers Gospel musical team and travelled extensively from coast to coast in Canada and the US in 1968-69. Heinz was also part of the musical team and their first introduction to each other was on September 2, 1968, in Edmonton, AB. The GV Team’s mission was to share God’s Love in the Church and Community through evening programs, children’s programs, prison ministries, or whatever else the local church had planned for them during their one to two week stays. Through this ministry, Sheryl made many life-long friends who she cherished very much, and she enjoyed attending the reunions to renew those friendships.
Church involvement was very central to Heinz and Sheryl’s weekly activities including church boards and the music program to mention a few. Sheryl sang in the choir for over 40 years and served in the music ministry as a pianist and organist. She also considered it a privilege to accompany choirs, ensembles, soloists and small groups, as well as sharing her musical abilities for funerals and weddings.
Sheryl loved and cherished time spent with her family and friends, she loved connecting with them and encouraging them with songs and scriptures via Facebook and email. Sheryl’s favorite destination was the Turtle Bay Resort on Oahu, Hawaii. She also enjoyed so many road trips: across Canada and the US, and many day trips throughout the beautiful Okanagan Valley.
Sheryl is survived by her brothers Lynn and Kevin (Sara), sister-in-law Hilda, brothers-in-law Werner (Hannah), Egon (Adelheid), and Otto (Gisela), and many special nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Heinz; by her parents, Alvin and Delores, and her brother Arden. Special thanks to good friends Dave and Gloria for their gracious support during Sheryl’s health journey.
A special thank-you to the Kelowna General Hospital ICU and unit 5B doctors and nurses, and to the Hospice House staff for making Sheryl comfortable and cared for.
A Memorial Service will be held, due to the current pandemic restrictions it will be by invitation only. The family would like to invite all who want to pay their respects to join by Livestream on TUESDAY, JUNE 29, 2021, AT 10:00 AM (see below).
