VU, Kinh Thi, age 95 of North York, Toronto, Ontario passed away Friday, November 19, 2021 at Humber River Hospital in the presence of loving family.
Kinh was born on July 1, 1926 in Nam Dinh, Vietnam. She is a survivor, having lived through many traumatic historical periods as an impoverished villager during French colonization, Japanese occupation and the Famine of 1945; as a Bac Ky 54 refugee where she fled North Vietnam to South Vietnam and resettled in the city of My Tho, where she spent the longest amount of time in her life; and the Vietnam War. She made and sold tofu in her city’s markets to be able to make ends meet for her family. In 1994, Kinh immigrated to Ontario, Canada after being sponsored by her children, who escaped Vietnam as refugees in the 1980s, and has since lived in Brockville, Waterloo and Toronto, helping them raise her grandchildren.
Kinh was a devout Catholic and her life revolved around the religion. She very much enjoyed daily walks, going to church, eating pizza, watching The Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune, and spending time with her family. Preceded in death by her late husband Chinh Nguyen (1923-1989) and first-born daughter Thi Tin Nguyen (1956-2017). She will be remembered for her selflessness, strength, determination, kindness, wit and humour. She is survived by her sister, Men Thi Vu; son-in-law Thao Van Nguyen; granddaughter Chau Thi Minh Nguyen, her husband Khanh Duy Vu, and great-grandchildren Trung Khanh Vu and Thi Khanh Vu; grandson Tuan Nguyen, his wife Bich Tran, and great-granddaughter Gia Nghi Nguyen; grandson Bao Thai Nguyen, his wife Dao Thi Xuan Nguyen, and great-grandchildren Khang Bao Nguyen and Han Bao Nguyen; daughter Mung Thi Nguyen; son Nhan Thanh (John) Nguyen, his wife Giang Thuy Thi (Jane) Ta, and granddaughters Michelle Thuy Uyen Nguyen and Theresa Giang Thanh Nguyen; daughter Cuc Thu Thi Nguyen, her husband Tam Dang Bui, and granddaughter Claire An Bui; and son, My Van Nguyen.
The family will receive relatives and friends for visitation on Friday, November 26, 2021 from 5:00 – 9:00 pm at DeMarco Funeral Home (Keele Chapel), 3725 Keele Street, Toronto, Ontario. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at 11:00 am at St. Jane Frances Catholic Church, 2747 Jane Street, Toronto, Ontario, in the Vietnamese language. Burial will proceed at Queen of Mary Catholic Cemetery, 7300 ON-27, Woodbridge, Ontario.
We would kindly remind all guests who are coming to pay their respects, to always remember to practice physical distancing and to avoid all physical contact.
Please note that it is now mandatory by the Government of Ontario that all family and friends attending any type of funeral service, must be wearing a facial covering unless exempted.
