MATACHESKIE, Kenneth Sylvester passed away peacefully at the Ottawa General Hospital on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, in his 84th year. Despite experiencing advanced cancer for the last year or so, his hospital stay was short. Just weeks ago, he was building gardening planters in his workshop for his granddaughter, Rose, and planting in the garden, with his beloved wife and soulmate, Cora.
Ken is survived by his wife of 59 years, Cora, his daughters Leanna (and spouse Michael), Mel (and spouse Kohei) and Allison, his grandchildren, Rose, Waylon, Harley, and Chihana and his great grandson, Aden. He is predeceased by his parents, John and Julia Matacheskie, and brothers,Wilfred and Frank.
Ken was born in Barry’s Bay, Ontario on November 13, 1937. After working for a brief time in the mills, he started his 36 year career in the military and retired as Captain. He smartly retired at age 56 and enjoyed a full second chapter of life with Cora in Beachburg, Ontario in a home they built and called their Shangri-La. He was one of the founding members of the radio station, CJHR, and it was one of his life achievements to be part of the wonderful group of people who made that station a reality for the community and beyond. He also enjoyed his service to the Grace Lutheran Church in Rankin, Ontario.
All of Ken’s family and friends will remember him for his hilarious and quick-witted sense of humour, his compassion, and love of life.
A service at the gravesite at the Grace Lutheran Church will be held in the morning on Saturday, July 17, 2021.
