Obituary of Kathleen Reid
REID- Kathleen (Kaye) Reid died peacefully in her sleep at the age of 101 in Rochester, MN.
“Little Grandma Kaye” was born in Humberstone Village (now Port Colborne), Canada in 1920 during the Spanish Flu Pandemic. While volunteering during World War II, she met and married Hollis Reid, whose work as a miller took their family across Canada and eventually to her home of 50 years in Lake City, MN. A tireless volunteer, Kaye shared her big heart and passion for people throughout her life. She became a well-known personality at Pass It On in Lake City, Lake City Hospital Auxiliary and at Habitat for Humanity in Immokolee, FL, where she and her siblings worked together over winters. She was recognized for her dedicated Habitat service by the CEO. Kaye was a walker. Her daily excursions took her along the Mississippi River and the beach in Naples. She embraced opportunities to set her feet in many corners of the world: across her native Canada, England and Western Europe, across the US, and Malaysia. She loved exploring new places and meeting new people. She blessed everyone she met with a smile and a story. She once led a group of Canadian business men safely through a night in Tijuana, Mexico! But Kaye always found her way back to her cherished sunset view of the bluffs in Lake City where she welcomed her circle of family, friends, and many adopted neighborhood grandchildren. Visitors could find Little Grandma Kaye barefoot on the front step, a glass of wine in hand, poised to welcome the world as it arrived to meet her. She is survived by her brother Douglas Hart; children Howard Reid, William Reid, Susan (James) Conway and Judith (Joseph) Hensel; Grandchildren Jennifer (Derrick) Rideout, Kimberly (Michael) Tavano, Joshua (Catherine) Conway, Aaron (Elizabeth) Conway, Jessica Hensel, Stephanie Hensel, and “adopted” grandson Riley (Andrea) Conway; 10 Great Grandchildren and numerous Canadian nieces and nephews all who adored her. Kaye was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Rebecca Hart, brothers Verdun, Howard, Joseph, Gordon, sister Noreen Lannan, and husband Hollis. Many thanks to the staff of Madonna Towers and Mayo Hospice. Her journey was enriched by their caring hands. A Celebration of Life will be held next summer in Lake City. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com. Memorials may be directed to Pass It On (Lake City) and Habitat for Humanity
