Kathleen Mitchell Wednesday April 21st 2021 avis de deces

Mitchell, Kathleen (Kay) Victoria Elizabeth
In her 96th year, our beloved Kathleen passed away April 21, 2021 at Sunset Manor in Collingwood. Predeceased by her husband Peter. Loving mother of Judy (Dave), Robert (Orasa) and Dorothy (Len). Cherished grandmother of Jordan (Kyle), Danielle (Ty), Alanna (Daniel) and Aleisha; favourite GG to Payton. Survived by her younger brother Albert (Terry) and predeceased by her siblings Leonard (Margaret), Stuart (Olga), Harold (Jacqueline), Dorothy (Willard). She will be missed by her many friends, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Kay was born in Quebec City and soon after moved to the Saguenay region of Quebec. She was the second of six children to Joe and Ethel Shea. Kay enjoyed summers spent with the Lavallee clan on the farms in Valcartier. In 1952 Kay met Peter on the air force base in Bagotville and were married the next year.
The next 20 years were spent raising her three children on military bases in France, Germany, Alberta, British Columbia, Quebec and Ontario where she always made a home for the family. In 1973 Kay and Peter left the military life and settled in Brampton where they were reunited with some of Kay’s family. One of the highlights of their civilian life was the Friday night get-togethers for a game of six hand euchre followed by a sing song of old Irish tunes. Kay began working as a school secretary at St. Anne’s, where she was well respected and valued by staff, students and their families. After 25 years of service, Kay retired to spend time with her growing family.
Her retirement years were spent being a hands-on grandma helping the girls learn to read, bake, write papers, translate French and attend their many activities. She enjoyed trips to Greece, United Kingdom, South America, the Caribbean, Thailand, Spain, Florida and north to visit her kids on Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. After downsizing she moved to a condominium on Mill Street in Brampton where she made many new friends who continue to remember and ask about her often. In 2017, she was happy to have her son and family move back to Canada and join the Mitchell crew. In the latter years her face would light up when she had the opportunity to spend time with her great granddaughter.
Kay had a very full life. She saw many parts of the world, met many people and most of all, she valued time spent with family. Over the years many people noted some similarities with Queen Elizabeth. Along with carrying the names of two queens, Kay passed away on Queen Elizabeth’s birthday. We will miss our fearless leader with her warm smile, wisdom, quick wit, and most of all, her signature look!
In view of COVID-19 there will be no formal services. We hope that together with our family you will celebrate a life well lived by sharing your memories of Kay. In lieu of flowers the family would like to request donations to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
