Obituary of Judy Urquhart
The family of Judy E. Urquhart are saddened to announce her passing on October 5th, 2021, in her 73rd year. Judy was born in Grand Manan on July 29th to her parents George and Mary Urquhart of Woodwards Cove, Grand Manan.
Judy will be greatly missed by her loving husband Eugene R. McKenelley of 32 years; her adoring children Dennis (Racquel), Patrick (Monica), Corey (Pamela), April (Philip), and Gina (Sean); brothers Francis, Ray (Margaret), Larry (Bertha); sisters Alice, Karen (Hugh); and cherished grandchildren Nick, Cohen, Kya, Liam, Jayden, Kayla, Dylan, and Jordan. Judy will now be reunited with her parents, brother George, sister-in-law Polly, brother-in-law Wayne, and her grandson Ashton.
Judy could be described as a hardworking, driven, and caring individual. Graduating with both her Bachelor’s and Master’s of Social Work from Dalhousie University. She worked in many roles throughout her lifetime, most notably as a case worker, then a parole office with the Province of New Brunswick. Besides her children, her most proud accomplishments was her co-creation – with Joyce Gregg – of Gentle Path Counselling; she was a counsellor and Executive Director for 22 years. Judy was also the first person approved by the Hague Convention authorized to complete intercountry adoptions. She had the honor of being on the Board of Directors for the John Howard Society for over 20 years.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). In following with Judy’s wishes visitation will be on Thursday, October 7th from 6:00–8:00pm, Friday, October 8th from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm. A celebration of life will be held at the Church of Good Sheppard (668 Manawagonish Rd, Saint John) at 10:00am on Saturday, October 9th, 2021, followed by her burial at Good Sheppard Cemetery. Due to Covid-19 health measures placed on indoor gatherings by the Government of New Brunswick, all those 12 and older attending the visitation and service will be required to show proof of vaccination and a piece of government-issued ID or proof of medical exemption.
