Joyce Shea (nee Reynolds)
It is with joy that we celebrate the life of Joyce Shea (ne Reynolds). Joyce passed away peacefully on July 30th 2021 just following her 91st birthday. Joyce Shea was a woman of her time. Joyce seamlessly balanced a life with 7 children, a non-stop husband, a wonderful work and social life, a love of family and sport, great friendships, and always a deep commitment to her faith and community.
Joyce was preceded by her loving husband and very best friend John Shea (2011) and her cherished son Brian (1988).
Joyce was the daughter of the late Marvin and Edna Reynolds and beloved sister of the late Margo Cipparone (Don), the late Bill Reynolds (the late Ann) and Mary Weill (the late Jean Claude). Joyce is also predeceased by her brother’s and sister’s in-law Dick and Miriam Dubois and Robin and Lola Shea.
Joyce was a loving mother to John (Carole), Brian, Louise (Gary), David (Janet), Michael, Martha (Andrew) and Julie (Michael).
Granny will be missed by her 8 grandchildren, Katee, Graeme, Maddy, Geoffrey, Kiera, Jack, Maggie and Rachel.
Joyce was an active life-long parishioner at St. Joseph’s Church in Hamilton and a member of the Catholic Women’s League for over 60 years.
When not at their home in Hamilton, Joyce and John loved their time at the family cottage on Pott’s Shore in Fenelon Falls where the family spent the past 57 summers. Joyce and John also loved their many winter getaways in Longboat Key Florida.
Joyce was an avid tennis player and an active member of the Hamilton Thistle Club, Mohawk Tennis Club and the Fenelon Falls Tennis Club. When she was not playing tennis, she was watching every match no matter the time of day or night. Joyce had a wonderful sense of humour and it is the thing so many of us will miss the most. Her intelligence, intuition, and timing, peppered with a little irreverence resulted in comedy gold.
The family would like to thank the staff at both St. Joseph’s Health Care Hamilton and Idlewyld Manor for their compassionate care over the past 12 months. A special thanks to Esther and all of the wonderful members of mom’s care team over the past year.
The family is forever indebted to Michelle Bass for being a dedicated friend and care giver for the past 8 years, and for helping us give Joyce a life of independence that she so richly enjoyed. Thank you, Michelle for being Mom’s partner in crime!
