BREEN
Vincent Joseph
April 5, 1944 – September 8, 2021
The family of Vincent Joseph (Joey) Breen is deeply saddened to announce his passing on September 8, 2021 at James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander. He passed peacefully surrounded by his loved ones.
Joey was born to Joseph and Catherine Breen on April 5th, 1944 at the Point La Haye lighthouse in St. Mary’s Bay and grew up in St. Mary’s. Following his marriage to Agnes (White), the couple resided on St. Brendan’s for nearly forty years, relocating in later years to Gander.
Joey was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather (Pop). Joey committed his life to providing love, support and care to Agnes, his children and grandchildren. Their accomplishments brought him great joy.
Joey enjoyed the simple things in life. He was known for his smile, his kindness, his lively wit and his love of story telling (occasionally exaggerated). He had a keen interest in politics and a strong belief in fairness and Liberal values.
Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of fifty-three years, Agnes, and his loving children, Denise Cokes (Jamie), Gander, Craig (Jennifer), St. John’s and Trevor (Mario Brideau), Saint John, N.B.
Treasured memories of the very best Pop will forever be held in the hearts of his grandchildren, Lucas and Amber Cokes and Brooke, Vincent and Blake Breen.
Predeceased by his parents and Agnes’s parents (Edgar and Josephine) Joey will be dearly missed by his sisters, Gertrude (George) Bradley, Elizabeth (Bob) Green, his brothers, Pat, Steve, Tom (Mary Kenny), Mike (Barbara), Bill (Veronica) Aiden (Brenda) along with his sister-in laws Marg (Eugene), Marg (Jim), Irene (Sam) as well as many nieces and nephews.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Stacey’s Funeral Home in Gander where visitation will take place on Sunday, September 12 from 2:00pm to 6:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 13 at 2:00pm at St. Josephs Roman Catholic Church in Gander, officiated by Father William Hearn.
The Breen family would like to thank the staff of the James Paton Memorial Hospital who provided outstanding and compassionate care to Joey during his illness. We extend a special thank you to the ICU nurses, Respiratory staff, and Dr. Burtally for their support during this sad time.
