Age 92, of Dartmouth, born on February 14, 1929, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2021 at the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Halifax, N.S., he was the son of Bertrum Joseph Landry (born in River Bourgeois, NS) and Sophie Olive (nee Poirier) Landry (born in Cheticamp, NS). “Joe” was predeceased by his wife (late Phyllis Bernice Casey). Surviving are his daughter Janet Landry, sons – Scott Landry (BC), Steven (Marcelle) Landry (Florida) and grandchildren Brian and Matt Landry (BC). In his younger years, Joe served in the merchant Navy and then worked for 35 years as a mechanical technician with DREA Atlantic making many voyages overseas throughout his career. Joe was an active community volunteer in his lifetime as a cub and scout leader, Santa Claus for decades for the annual DREA family Christmas parties, organizer of subsequent DREA staff Christmas reunions, member of the Somme Royal Canadian Legion Branch 31, weekly collector, fundraiser and 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus for his beloved Roman Catholic St. Paul’s church, Windmill Rd, Dartmouth. Joe was a very social person who easily formed lifelong friendships with career colleagues, fellow parishioners and many of his contacts in the medical community. Joe was very fond of his GP Dr. Kate McCormick. Special thanks to the staff of 4E of the Dartmouth General Hospital for their care and compassion. In accordance with Joe’s wishes, funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, Windmill Road, Dartmouth at a time to be announced. Due to covid restrictions, the church mass has restricted seating and is available to only those invited by the family to attend. Burial will be held, following, at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the ‘Huntington’s Society of Canada’. Arrangements are under the direction of Dartmouth Funeral Home Ltd.
