It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Joe Tait, surrounded by his family.
Joe was born in Powell River at St. Luke’s Hospital and lived his entire life here. He was a strong, hardworking man who loved his family dearly.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Judi, his son Laurence (Catherine) and daughters Kelli (Jeff Katcher), Sherry (Glen Lawson) and Janice (Miles Budd). He was a loving Papa to 12 grandchildren: Caroline (Francis), Cheyenna, Daniel, David, Erin (Gary), Sarah, Ryan (Dale), Travis (Michelle), Kaitlyn (Riley), Scott, Matthew and Megan, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by his brothers Richie (Betty), Ron (Gail) and John (Kathy), sister Shirley (Gary) and their families.
Joe worked in the logging industry for over 50 years and retired at the age of 72. He was a proud member of the IWA and served on its board for many years.
Anyone who knew Joe, knew he was an extraordinary musician who could play multiple instruments. At the age of 17, he began playing in numerous dance bands in the community as well as playing the organ, piano and bass in his church.
He was happiest when he had a project to work on, like building a house or building a shop or adding an addition, and helping out his friends and family. Another great passion was belonging tom the BOMB Squad for many years.
Thank you to all the EMT’s, and the ER and ICU staff for showing such compassion and kindness to Joe and the family.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Joseph Hugh Sidney Tait March 6 1938
