It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary Aucoin, age 78, on Monday, October 18, 2021, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Gary was predeceased by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Edward Aucoin; brother, Arnold, Calgary; sister, Lucella (Mrs. Herb Dean), Sydney; son-in-law, Herb Humby, ON; brother-in-law, David (Sam) MacDonald, Sydney; and sister-in-law, Elaine Delaney, Sydney.
Left to mourn is his wife of 41 years, Marilyn (MacDonald) Aucoin; three sons, Frank (Janice), Sydney, Rick, NB and Blair, ON; two daughters, Mrs. Darlene Humby, ON and Kathy Ryan (Troy),Sydney. His grandchildren were his great pride and joy. He was so proud of each of them, Megan and Logan Aucoin, Sydney, Kendra, Kenzie Humby, ON, Olivia and Evan Aucoin, ON, Brandon (Haley), NB and Cody Ryan, Sydney; and great-grandchild, Archer. Also survived by Keith (Bernice), Sydney, Francis (Donna), Ottawa, Sally (Bill) Connors, ON, Elaine (John) Kozera, Sydney and Sherry Coldwell, Halifax; brother-in-law, John (Kathy) MacDonald, Sydney; sisters-in-law, Faye (Sonny) Goode, Halifax, Linda (Chris) Kieley, Sydney, Debbie Fewer, Sydney, Margo (Carman) Giacomantonio, Halifax, Sherry MacDonald, Sydney and Verna Aucoin, Calgary.
A truck driver for many years, Gary started his career with Ideal Ice Cream at the age of 16 and retired from Scotsburn Dairy Group at the age of 60. He was an avid Screaming Eagles fan, never missing a game.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Sydney Memorial Chapel, Welton Street, Sydney, with visitation on Thursday, October 21, 2021 from 4-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday, October 22, 2021 at 11 a.m., with Mr. Gary Grant officiating. Covid-19 protocol will be followed and proof of double vaccination and masks are mandatory. Interment will take place in Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Kidney Foundation or the Sydney Lion’s Club Spanish River Court, Sydney, where Gary was a proud member for quite a few years, giving endless hours of his time helping others in need.
A special thank you goes out to the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital who went above and beyond their duties with Gary for which we are so very thankful. It made it easier on the whole family and won’t be forgotten. They were truly a terrific staff in our final time with Gary. Thank you all so much.
