Johnnie Bill JB Rutherford 2021

We, the family, regret to announce the passing of Johnnie Bill “JB” on Monday, May 17, 2021, at the MacGillivray Guest Home, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Lamont and Winnifred (Bryson) Rutherford.
JB was an excellent basketball player. As a result of his basketball exploits, he was inducted into the Sydney Academy Sports Hall of Fame and the Cape Breton Sports Hall of Fame. For 36 years, he was employed at the Cape Breton Post as a photo engraver/photographer, retiring in 1986. He then worked at Sydney Memorial Chapel as a driver/funeral attendant for 24 years.
JB is survived by his sons, David (Brenda), Calgary, Walter (Cathy), Sydney and Gordie (Vivian), Comox, BC; sister, Leona Dobbin; grandchildren, Michael, Geoffrey, Mark and Trevor; and a large number of nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 69 years, Helen (Fage); sisters, Lailya, Ida, Grace, Ardella and Barbara; brothers, Lamont, Robert and Charles; and a grandson, Christopher in infancy.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 from 2-4 p.m.
The family would like to thank the staff of the MacGillivray Guest Home for their care provided to JB. Thank you to Theresa Jacobs for her caring support and always looking after them over the years and special thanks to Dr. Carol Critchley for her care.
Memorials in JB’s name may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
