Obituary of John Koval
KOVAL – John, Jack (Kuba) – Born April 11, 1929. Peacefully at home, on Sunday February 21, 2021 in his 92nd year. Survived by his wife, Mary (Roberts) in their 60th year of marriage. Nieces- Sharon Gordon and Anne Labelle (Gary); Nephews- James Koval (Marilyn) and Murray Koval (Denise). Many nieces and nephews in Ontario and New Brunswick; Sisters-in-law Eileen Jardine (Percy), June Arseneault (Alfie), Cora Roberts (Bert) and Patricia Roberts (Lloyd “Bud”). He thought a lot of the Special Campbell Family- Kevin and Cheryl; Dylan, Alanna and Clark; Sarah, Stephen and Sidney; Alexandra and Mitchell. Pre-deceased by his Father Steven (1965); Mother Pola (1977); Sisters Merry Gordon (Norman) and Anne Koval; Brothers Peter and James. John was born in Port Colborne and lived here all of his life. He retired from INCO (1984) where he taught First Aid and judged competitions in Sudbury. He was a carpenter and enjoyed building and fixing things. He had a great sense of humour and made many lasting friendships. He was a strong, brave man who looked after his family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, swimming, biking, bowling and all sports. He enjoyed travelling- the 1972 Russian/Canadian Hockey Series in Moscow, when Paul Henderson scored the winning goal for Canada that was heard around the world, John was there. He and Mary were snowbirds in Florida and Spain for over 25 years- cruised to Alaska, visited the US and many European countries, saw Canada and the United States from coast to coast. Thank you to the Palliative Care team Dr. Scher, Dr. R.J. Kamatovic, LHIN Care Co-ordinators, CCAC, St. Elizabeth nurses Crystal and Dennis; PSW’s Jill & Rachel. Per John’s wishes, cremation has taken place. To keep everyone safe during this COVID crisis there will be no visitation and a private family service with Interment will be held at Overholt Cemetery at a later date. A Memorial Bench will be placed along the St. Lawrence Seaway, so others can enjoy viewing the ships, as John did. Arrangements entrusted to DAVIDSON FUNERAL HOME, 135 Clarence St., Port Colborne. If desired, memorial donations can be made to Port Cares or Northland Pointe Auxiliary, or the Charity of your choice.
