Obituary of John Berger
John Berger, age 98, of Steinbach, Manitoba, after a brief illness, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 25th, 2021, at Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Steinbach, MB.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Anna, and his parents Konrad and Eva Berger.
Dad is survived by his four sons and daughter, John and wife Marlene, Tom and wife Brigitta, Ed and wife Anne, Rob and wife Janis and Maryann Kroeker and husband Lincoln; their children, grandchildren, and friends.
Dad was born in Vecses, Hungary. After finishing grade school he became a tool and die maker. The family moved to Germany shortly after World War II, then immigrated to Canada with his wife, parents and two eldest sons in 1950. He was a man of many interests and passions, including wood and metal working, carpentry and he loved inventing. He worked in the service of others for most of his life; including custodian at Elmdale and Woodland Elementary Schools, the Knights of Columbus, and volunteered at the Steinbach Catholic Church. After retiring, dad enjoyed travel in winter; Texas was his favourite destination.
Special thanks to the Doctors, nurses, and caregivers at the Steinbach Bethesda Hospital for the care that dad received.
A Mass and private family burial will take place.
