Our beloved Father, Grandfather, Uncle, and friend to many celebrants at Holy Spirit Catholic Church passed away on June 7th, 2021, at the age of 91. Born October 4th, 1929, in Cork, Ireland, to beloved parents Joseph (deceased 1982 at age 87) and Ann (deceased 1978 at age 81) O’Connor. Dad’s Father, Joseph O’Connor came from a devoted Catholic family with many of Grandfather’s brothers and sisters serving our Lord as priests and nuns in the Catholic diocese.
John or Sean as known to many, he was gentle, kind, and a patient person who lived his life with optimism, cheer, and devout faith in family and the Catholic Church. It was recently discovered Dad was the anonymous Angel who provided St. Therese cards and flowers for the congregation at Holy Spirit. He met his wife Olive (Olivia) in Belfast whose love story and devotion to each other has continued for over 66 years. Sean and Olivia’s life was filled with adventure and new challenges leaving Ireland with their two sons Anthony and Brian immigrating to Canada in the mid-nineteen-sixties.
Sean and Olivia provided love, understanding, encouragement, and a strong sense of Catholic faith to his family and many grandchildren. Dad loved Canada and was grateful for the opportunities it provided for his family. Sons Anthony and Brian applied themselves to the opportunities Canada has offered both graduating University and having successful careers.
Dad’s devotion to his wife Olivia during their declining health is a living inspiration for us all: ‘Olivia is my best friend and love,’ he would say. Sean is survived by: Olivia O’Connor, and two sons Anthony (Angelica) O’Connor and Brian (Kellie) O’Connor; five grandchildren, Christina (Kevin) O’Brien, Brittany, Katie, Eric, and Kayla).
Sean shared life with three sisters Maureen (deceased 1924), his second sister Elizabeth Nolan (O’Connor – deceased 2014 at the age of 89) married to husband Eugene Nolan (deceased 1978) with their children Eoghan Nolan, and Bairbre Murphy (Nolan) and husband Pat Murphy (deceased 2013); and third sister Ann Patricia Butler (O’Connor – deceased 2017 aged 90) married to husband Paul Butler (deceased 1996) and their three surviving children Ann, Patricia, and Joe Butler. Ann Cody (Butler) is married to Seamus Cody, and Patricia O’Donovan (Butler) to Michael O’Donovan.
A Private Funeral Mass will take place at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at 1:00pm with live-streaming* available through the link below.
