Johnny (John) Konowalyk was born on March 12, 1929 in Cudworth, Saskatchewan to parents, Metro and Johanna Konowalyk. When John was an infant the family moved from Prud’homme, Saskatchewan to Trail, British Columbia. From there they moved to the Peace region and homesteaded in the Three Lakes area.
When John was 19, he met Nanette Richard at a dance at the Lac Cardinal Hall. John was a smooth dancer- he swept Nanette right off her feet! They recently celebrated 70 years of marriage. They married in 1951 and raised 3 children in Grimshaw. (thanks mom)
John worked as a foreman at Mackies’s Concrete Plant and later was a heavy-duty mechanic and welder at Estabrook Construction until his retirement. In his younger years, John was an avid fastball player who played third base for a competitive team. John and Nanette took up golfing and bowling together and loved spending evenings playing cards with family and friends.
“Poppa” loved spending time with his grandchildren. As time went by, Poppa and Gram always attended all of their children’s and grandchildren’s special events, such as graduations and weddings. They were always around to welcome the 4th generation- their great grandchildren. Poppas was so very proud of his whole family.
John was predeceased by his mother and father; brothers Peter, Edgar, Victor, Albert and Sonny; sisters Anne, Mary and Rosalie. He is survived by his wife, Nanette; daughters Bonnie (Bruce), Shawn (Rod) and his son Bryce (Shona); brothers Bill, George and Frankie; sisters Margaret, Marjorie and Josephine; 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Family Celebration of Life for Poppa Johnny will be held at a later date.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of John Konowalyk March 12 1929 March 20 2021..
