Ken was born August 6, 1921 in Ottawa, Ontario, a city he loved and lived in for most of his life apart from his military postings. He served in the Army with the Cameron Highlanders from 1939-1946. He credited this service with providing him the opportunity to go to Carleton University where he earned his BA. He then returned to the military and served with the Airforce from 1951 to 1971, retiring with the rank of Major. He finished his career at the Department of National Defence where he worked until the age of 67. His retirement years were largely spent reading, writing, supporting environmental causes and especially working on his legacy – The Cabin. He happily celebrated his 100th birthday this year surrounded by family and enthusiastically clapped along to the surprise bagpiper who played his regimental march among other tunes.
Private cremation followed by interment at Prospect Cemetery.
A Celebration of Ken’s Life will be held in Ajax
Special thanks to Carol and the team at Home Instead, Steven from Community Care Durham, as well as Alan from Paramed – who all helped this fiercely independent man to live on his own until a few weeks ago
Memorial Donations in Ken’s name may be made to The Canadian Wildlife Federation.
