On January 18, 2021 John Eric (Jack) Winik went to be with his Lord and Saviour, after passing away peacefully at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital.
Jack was born in Rouyn, Québec on April 4, 1942 to Joseph and Lena Winik. He grew up around Kirkland Lake and after graduating from Englehart High School he worked in construction building the Gowganda Dam and then following in his father’s footsteps, Jack started working underground at the Castle Silver Mine near Gowganda.
The family moved to the Red Lake area and he worked at the Madsen Gold Mine until joining the Ontario Provincial Police in 1963. He was posted at the Emo Detachment for his entire career, retiring after 30 years of service as a Senior Constable. Jack always attested that it was an honour and privilege to be a member of the OPP.
Jack served as a member of the Emo Council for three years after his retirement from the OPP and enjoyed many pastimes such as hunting, fishing, curling, enjoying time at the cabin on Clearwater Lake and could be found at the local coffee shop swapping stories with his coffee chums.
Jack is survived by his wife of 55 years, June (Olson), daughter Janey (Rob Johnson) of White Rock, BC, son Jon-Paul (Carolyn), of Emo and daughter-in-law Tricia Winik of Windsor, ON and eight grandchildren: Bethany (Ian Molendyk), Anders Johnson, Brett Johnson, Alexa (Justin Duff), Juliana Winik, Allison Winik, Benjamin Winik and Sophie Winik.
Jack is also survived by sisters Faye (Bob Stewart), Terry Winik and Cheryl (Tim Legarie) and brothers Richard (Lorie), Howard (Andrea), Gordie (Carol) and Garry (Renée) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jack was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Lena Winik, father-in-law Sigurd Olson, mother-in-law Mary Olson and his beloved son, Joseph Shawn.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that if desired, donations be made to the Emo Hospital Auxiliary or to the charity of your choice,c/o Northridge Funeral Home, Box 89, Emo, ON P0W 1E0.
