John (Jack) passed away peacefully at the Florentine on August 1, 2021, at 91 years old. Born in Kilgard, B.C., on January 9th, 1930, the 5th of 7 children, he has lived in Merritt most of his life, working at most of the local sawmills as a millwright, until his retirement. He was well-known in the community as a quiet, kind and gentle person. He loved gardening, a reflection of his faith in our Creator, Jehovah. He also loved cars and tinkering, “MacGyvering” anything mechanical. He enjoyed visiting the Garlic Festival, checking out old tractors and vehicles, and a big highlight during his stay at the Florentine was the Antique Car Show visit, taking time to admire each car and chat with its’ owner.
He was predeceased by his wife Joan, in 2019 after 68 years of marriage, 2 brothers and 2 sisters, his son-in-law David Sutherland; his grandson Johnathan Harris his great-grandson Braeden Lane and his brother-in-law Wilfred Holroyd (Violet).
He is lovingly remembered by his children Ken (Aileen), Barbara Ball (Ron), Lynette Piccin (Rocci) and Murray (Sheri), his 20 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren, as well as his sisters Pearl Hobbs and Eva Cossett, numerous nieces and nephews and their families and many friends.
