John (Jack) Richard Stanton May 7,1963-March 21, 2021.
Jack Stanton age 57, passed away on Sunday March 21, 2021 at his home in Mississauga surrounded by his wife Lois and two beautiful daughters Olivia and Grace.
Jack grew up in Ottawa in a loving family. With seven siblings, the house was always lively and young Jack took every opportunity to hone his pranking skills with his older siblings. Predeceased by his father Lawrence Stanton, he is survived by his 96 year old mother Hortense Stanton (nee Griffin), his siblings: Barry (Nancy), Marilyn, Marty, Marybeth, Griffin, Larry, Robert (Jolene) and his many loving nieces and nephews.
Jack met Lois at the young age of 19 in Calgary which turned out to be the beginning of a great adventure and love story. Followed by a year abroad while Lois was in Switzerland, they kept the bond strong, with letters and phone calls at $2/minute! They eventually travelled the world together for a year adventuring around New Zealand by bicycle, northern hills in Thailand and trekking the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal.
In 1989, Lois and Jack were married and began a new stage of their lifelong journey together. There were many more adventures travelling, back country skiing, and canoe tripping. Between them they were devoted to their family and friends, and especially to raising two wonderful daughters. When they welcomed Olivia and Grace into the world, Jack found two new loves of his life. He was a dedicated father and filled their full house with laughter and joy. Those who knew him know his girls were his world. Jack also inspired them with his love of adventure and the great outdoors – skiing in the winter, canoeing in the summer, and cooking up a storm in the kitchen wherever he was. Above all, Jack was constant in his compassion, love, optimism, and support for all those he cared for, from family to the ever growing circles of friends.
As recently quoted by a dear friend upon his pending departure, “I hope Jack is calm
now, getting ready to eddy out, and point the bow down stream along a beautiful gently flowing crystal clear river. That’s how I’m picturing him.” That is how we will remember him, calmly paddling his canoe.
Jack was dedicated to his 40 year career with AMJ Campbell Moving where he nurtured friendships and professionalism, it was a second home for him. He started at a young age working as a furniture mover, eventually working his way through many aspects of the industry including ownership, to finding his niche with corporate sales. He enjoyed planning the G8 conference in Huntsville Ontario in 2010 where he met several world leaders.
At work, home and amongst friends, Jack dearly loved a gathering – and he will be remembered by his numerous and extended family, his many, many friends and colleagues and by anyone who met him as an interested, engaged, jovial and warmly mischievous character with a twinkle in his eye and often a trick up his sleeve! To know him was to be the beneficiary of his wit, sense of humour, generosity of spirit, and love of a wind-up or a practical joke.
On March 21, after many years of fighting, Jack succumbed to the cancer that was first diagnosed in 2015. Despite his diagnosis, Jack never ceased to be the optimist in the room and continued to take on each day with immense positivity, hope, and his sense of adventure. When he started treatment, he published a blog to keep friends and family up to date on his progress, and it always began or ended with “Best Foot Forward”. That is how Jack lived his life every day.

Many thanks to the Princess Margaret Hospital team who over the years provided exceptional care to Jack. You painted his journey with love and friendship for which we are all the beneficiaries. And to the Credit Valley Palliative Team who provided his end of life care, we thank you for your compassionate care.
Jack participated annually in the Walk to Conquer Cancer on Father’s Day and since his diagnosis raised over $35,000 for the Head and Neck department and their Survivorship program.
