Johannus “John” William Drost, suddenly and peacefully at home, in his 91st year on June 8, 2021.
Survived by his loving wife of almost 65 years, Willy (nee Smeenk). Loving father of Henry (Crystal), Martin (Susan), Carmen (Mary Ann) and Eric (Annette). Cherished Grandpa John to Scott, Kasey, Courtney, Aaron, Nicolaas, Sarah, Georgia, Tonya, Shawn, Brent, Zach, Deanna, Kristen and Great-Grandpa John to 16. Survived by his siblings Klaus (Ieke), Maarten (Joan), Dineke (Will), Agaath (Hans), Joen, Jeanne (Klaas). Survived by sisters-in-law Gerrie and Joan and brothers-in-law George and Joost and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his son John (1960), his sisters-in-law Sini and Henny and brothers-in-law Tom and Don.
John was born in the Netherlands in 1930. He immigrated to Canada in 1952. John met the love of his life, Willy, and they were married in 1956. John started farming in 1960 and retired from Rolling Acres Farm (Prospect Hill) in 1998. John and Willy moved to St. Marys to retire. In 2019, John and Willy moved to a beautiful apartment in Stratford. John spent many faithful years, and was an elder, with St. Marys Presbyterian Church. John spent many wonderful years, including lots of time in the gardens, at his trailer in Wildwood By The River in Bayfield. John had a long and healthy life and was always active right up until the end.
Cremation to take place. Visitation at the Andrew L. Hodges Funeral Home, 47 Wellington St. S. St. Marys, on Sunday, June 13 during the afternoon and evening. Those wishing to attend, please RSVP with the funeral home by either calling 519-284-2820 or emailing rsvphodges@gmail.com.
A private family Memorial Service held on Monday June 14th at 11 am and will be streamed on Facebook Live through the Andrew L. Hodges Funeral Home Facebook page.
Interment in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
