Obituary of Joan Rice
Rice: Joan (nee Salmons) –
A resident of Chatham, Joan Rice passed away at the Chatham Retirement Resort on Monday, December 27, 2021 at the age of 90.
Born in Sarnia, Joan was the daughter of the late Thomas and Helena (Simpson) Salmons.
Beloved wife of 65 beautiful years to the late Melvin Rice (2017).
Loving mother of Thom Rice (Marg), Dave Rice (Deb), Paul Rice (Eve) and the late Joanne Schatz (2012). Mother-in-law to Fred Schatz (Janice).
Proud Grandma to Nathan Rice (Melissa), Melinda Rice (Justin), Brad Rice, Julie Rice (Tony), Dana Haggith (Aaron), Delynn Miller (Dave), Aaron Schatz (Sarah), Jon Schatz (Jenn), Corey Schatz (Katy), Jenn Pattison (Colin) and Kim Finley (Scott).
Also survived by 18 great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by her siblings Victor Salmons (Marion), Geri Mays (Lloyd) and Tom Salmons (Sandra).
Also missed by nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
Joan had a strong faith and will be missed by her church family at Maple City Baptist Church.
Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Thursday, December 30, 2021 from 3:00 – 5:00pm. Those planning to attend are required to register online at (signup.com/go/EkSwMXO) or by phoning the Funeral Home. The Bereavement Authority of Ontario have mandated that all attendees wear a mask. A Funeral Service will be live-streamed at 11:00am on Friday, December 31, 2021 on the Funeral Home website. Interment to follow at Arnold Cemetery.
Donations made in memory of Joan to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.
