It is with great sadness that the family of Joan Louise Huntington announces her passing on December 4, 2021, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born August 9, 1936, in Sydney, she was the youngest daughter of the late Eugene and Mary Ellen (Green) Barrett.
Joan was well-liked by her friends of whom she had many. Charlotte, Clara and Gordie, especially, will miss her visits and phone calls. Joan had a big heart and would give you the shirt off her back if you needed it. She loved a good laugh, would often tell a joke to make you smile and we are quite sure, that if there is a telephone in heaven, Joan has found it.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Donna (Huntington) Dykeman, NB; granddaughters, Savannah and Valerie; and several nephews and nieces.
The last surviving member of her immediate family, Joan was predeceased by her parents and siblings. She was also predeceased by her son-in-law, Peter Dykeman.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. A private committal service will be held at a later date.
