Obituary of Jill Dawn Gesner
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Jill Dawn (Smith) Gesner, on Saturday, July 3rd at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, with her husband Gary by her side.
A lifelong resident of Fredericton, Jill worked for the City for over 32 years, and was a dedicated public servant. She worked for the last several years with the Fredericton Fire Department, and was an invaluable and beloved member of their team.
Jill was an avid music fan, and especially loved attending and supporting the Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival. She could also be found at Dolan’s celebrating St. Patrick’s Day each year with friends. Jill and Gary loved to travel, and enjoyed many trips and adventures over the years with family and friends. She also enjoyed hosting many gatherings for the Smith and Gesner families. Jill was a devoted partner to Gary and a caring daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.
Jill is survived by her husband of 24 years, Gary Gesner; parents, Bob and Barb Smith, Fredericton; sisters: Vanda (Craig) Newton, Bedford, NS; Lisa (Eric) Fulton, Fredericton; Susan Smith, Calgary, AB; aunt Carole Montgomery, Woodstock; cousin Betty-Ann Chambers, Florida, USA; mother-in-law, Pearl Gesner (Fred Deveau), Chipman; brothers and sisters-in-law: Andy (Kim) Gesner, Lac La Biche, AB; Lyn (John) Trivett, Quispamsis; Kathy McPhee, Ottawa, ON; Susan (Weldon) Leblanc, Kelowna, BC; Brian (Nancy) Gesner, Hampton; and Stephen (Cindy) Gesner, Fredericton.
Jill will also be missed and remembered with love by her many nieces and nephews, especially Shayla, Vanessa, Tianna, and Cody. She was a dedicated aunt, and always made sure all their life milestones and accomplishments were celebrated.
Visitation will be held at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, on Wednesday, July 7 between 2 and 4 p.m., and Thursday, July 8 between 2 and 4 p.m. and 7 and 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fredericton SPCA or a charity of the donor’s choice.
