Jean Hamilton 1933 2021

Obituary of Jean Hamilton
Jean Mildred (McAlary) Hamilton passed away peacefully at the Kiwanis Nursing Home in Sus, NB on February 6, 2021.
Born in Saint John New Brunswick on May 24, 1933, she was the daughter of Arthur Edward McAlary and Mildred Jane (Hamilton) McAlary.
A proud Saint John “Northender” Jean graduated from Saint John High School in 1950 and went on to successfully complete the two year special course in Teacher Education in the Department of Home Economics at Saint John Vocational School in 1952. She first taught Home Economics at Stanley Regional High School, and later at the Vocational School in Saint John, NB. Jean also worked for a time at the Better Business Bureau in Halifax, NS, but her main occupation, and the one she loved best, was stay at home mother and wife.
During the war years Arthur McAlary built a camp on the Kingston Peninsula for his family. It still stands today and throughout her lifetime Jean spent many happy summer days at her beloved camp.
Jean had a beautiful voice and shared that gift as a child singing in the choir at St. Luke’s Anglican Church in Saint John, NB, and later in life with her wonderful choir and church family at St. Thomas Anglican Church in Fall River, NS.
Besides her parents Jean was pre-deceased by her loving husband William “Keith” Hamilton.
A beloved mother, grandmother, sister and devoted friend she will be sadly missed by her children, Larry McNeil, Clifford McNeil (Heather Milne); Heather Sparkes (Ken); and Earl McNeil (Marilyne Goudreau); brother, David McAlary, special cousin Ruth Pickle; grandchildren Laura Kaye, Angela Dibblee, Christine Taylor, Matthew McNeil and Shawn McNeil, grandchildren of her heart, Crystal MacCaul, Robyn Henderson, and Jo-anneyre McNeil Cruz, many great-grandchildren, cousins, nephews, nieces and special friends.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sus (506-433-1176). A private family service will be held on Saturday, February 13th at 11:00AM with Rev. Tom Stradwick presiding. You can view the service online via livestream. Interment will be held at a later date.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the outstanding staff at Kiwanis Nursing Home for their kind and compassionate care in Mom’s final days.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the Alzheimer’s Society, your local Canadian Mental Health Association, or the charity of your choice. Online condolences and donations may be made at www.WallaceFuneralHome.com
