Jean MacQueen 2021

It is with deep sadness that the family of Jean MacQueen announce her passing on July 9, 2021, surrounded by her four loving daughters. Jean was born in Sydney on October 3, 1935 and raised in Caribou Marsh. She was a long-time resident of Round Island, Cape Breton where she lived with her beloved husband James MacQueen for more than fifty years. James predeceased Jean in 2015. She was the daughter of the late Archibald and Sadie (MacDonald)Matheson and a graduate of the Normal College in Truro, Nova Scotia.
Jean will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, teacher, and volunteer. She was a rock within her family and her community. She never ceased to amaze us with her kindness, her energy, her generosity, and her love. She was filled with community spirit, regularly and happily volunteering her time throughout her life. She was a lifetime member, and an Elder of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Sydney and a past president and lifetime member of the Homeville Women’s Institute. She was a dedicated member and past president of the Mira Seniors and Pensioners, Marion Bridge. Jean’s strength, intelligence, comfort, and humour will be sorely missed by those who were lucky enough to have known her.
Surviving is her brother John Matheson (Beth), Marion Bridge; daughters, Mary Elizabeth (Douglas Stewart), Dartmouth, Barbara (Terry Boutilier), Port Caledonia, Audrey (Blaine Gallant), Dartmouth, and Eleanor Anderson, Sydney; grandchildren, Neil and Emma Stewart, Alex (Amy), Jessica(Mike) and Daniel Boutilier (Emma), Dennis and Cameron Gallant and Laura and Marcy (Kyle) Anderson; and great-grandchildren Abby and Zoe Boutilier, Luke and Liam Anderson, Emmy and Henry Garden. Jean is also survived by her brother-in-law Donald Ferguson of Round Island and many cherished nieces and nephews. Jean will be missed by many including special lifelong friends Marilyn and Gerry Moules.
