It is with saddened hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Jean, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Jean was beautiful, in spirit, in body and in her way with the people in this world. There was never a person she would pass without a hello and never a stranger who was made unwelcome in her presence. Jean was quick to anger but even quicker to forgive. She was able to take a life built on a foundation of trauma and turn it into a palace of safety and comfort. Her life was never easy but it was blessed.
From the day she met Charles she knew that life would never be the same and that he would offer her the comfort of arms that loved her, he would hold her close even as she left this world. Charles, her children and grandchildren were the world to her. She would talk about them to anyone who would listen. Her grandchildren were known as her babies no matter how old they got and she was so proud of her children no matter the path they took.
Jean was a storyteller and everyone who knew her will be able to look back and hear her sharing a memory. She never needed to create or make up these stories, as her own life was stuff that books are made from. She was a hero not only for herself but for so many she came across. While her family was her first love, her second was working at Seven Oaks Youth Centre, where she was able to combine her love of cooking and her ability to reach troubled youth. Jean had a gift for getting people to open up and share their stories with her, partly that came from her belief that sharing truth and offering forgiveness were the best way to live a full and blessed life. Jean’s door was never closed and nor was her heart.
When she married into the Cox family, she didn’t just take their name, she became one of them, they became family, as did their extended family. Jean’s heart was never too full to accept more people into it. She had a larger family she loved, one she was born into and one she accepted the day she married Charles. She was loved by so many and will be missed by the same. The last gift we were able to give to Jean, our wife and mother was to give her the passing that she wanted, in her home and bed with those she loved around her.
