Obituary of Janet Catherine Poisson
It is with deep sadness, we announce the passing of Janet C. Poisson (nee Bouteiller), age 80 who passed away on April 14, 2021; predeceased by her beloved husband of 49 years, Robert A Poisson; proud mother of Robert (Lorraine), Charlie (Heather), Christopher, Renee (Andrew) and Gregory (Rosemari). Fondly remembered as “Meme” by grandchildren, Robby, Emilie, Marcus, Darian, Carson, Eric, Nicholas, Alyssa, Noah, Nazira, Andrew and Amanda, and great-grandson, Luke.
Predeceased by her parents, Frederic P. Bouteiller and Rita M. Bouteillier (nee Thibert); her brothers Fred P. Bouteiller (Cecile) and George F. Bouteiller (Mary); survived by her sister, Margaret M. Robinet (John).
In 1962, Janet graduated from Windsor’s Hotel Dieu of St. Joseph School of Nursing. For over 25 years, Janet worked as an RN in the Windsor and Niagara areas, in positions such as Surgical ICU; Staff Nurse and then Head Nurse at St. Thomas Psychiatric Hospital. Later, Janet specialized in Spinal Cord Injury Care for 10 years; followed by Geriatric Nursing and Palliative Care in Nursing Homes.
In addition to raising her 5 children, Janet volunteered tirelessly for over 40 years at various Parishes relative to where she lived at the time; becoming involved in Charismatic Prayer Groups; implementing Choir Groups; to becoming an accomplished Church Organist and Choir Director.
Janet will not only be remembered for her devotion to family and faith; but also for her strong character and charismatic personality – always ready for engaging conversation and always ready to offer help and advice. Memories of family trips, and family get-togethers in Port Colborne and Smithville, and Janet’s care of the family cottage will especially be treasured.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Burloak Long Term Care in Burlington for their extraordinary care and compassion during Janet’s time there. A private Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 11:00am at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 123 King St., in Port Colborne. Private interment will take place at St.Martin’s de Tours Cemetery in Smithville at a later date.
