James (Jim) Stanley Hovdebo
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of James (Jim) Stanley Hovdebo on his acreage in the RM of Prince Albert. Born on October 2, 1954 to Stan and Kay Hovdebo in Whitehorse Yukon, Jim grew up in Inuvik, NWT, Val d’or, Que., Huntsville, Ont., Kiaitaia, New Zealand and Prince Albert, Sask. A life long learner, after finishing high school, Jim attended Memorial University in Newfoundland and graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with B. Sc. In biology. Jim began his working career driving a taxi for Grey Cab and as a mechanic for CJ Automotive in Prince Albert. After earning his degree, he was employed as a Senior Process Technologist at the Prince Albert Pulp and Paper Mill for fourteen years. During that time Jim also began to volunteer at the E.A. Rawlinson Centre. His time as a volunteer eventually turned into a full time career at the Centre – which according to him, was the “most rewarding job” he ever had. Jim completed his career as an Operator at the Prince Albert Water Treatment Plant. Throughout his life, Jim loved to travel and as a young adult he did much of the driving when he, his father and brother crossed the Sahara Desert in a Volkswagen van. His love of driving led to numerous family trips through out Saskatchewan and around Canada from coast to coast to coast. Proud of his Norwegian heritage, Jim also led numerous trips with members of his Canadian family to Norway, where he toured them to visit the Norwegian side of the family. His retirement to the acreage south of Prince Albert afforded Jim the time and place to realize his other passions – learning, reading, gardening, pandering to his dog Dexter and feeding the birds. Jim was predeceased by his father Stan and is survived by his mother Kathleen (Kay) of Weldon, SK, his two sons, Tyler and Ryan (Chantelle) Hovdebo both of Prince Albert and daughter Nicole (Nathan) Huculiak of the RM of St. Louis and three grandchildren whom he loved dearly – Arianna and Logan Hovdebo and Brooklyn Huculiak. He is also survived by his uncle Mike Langridge of Winnipeg, his brother Don (Maureen) of Northern Light, SK. and his sister Brenda of Burks Falls, ON. as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews and their family members. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Marc Blondeau of Kushneryk Funeral Service, Wakaw, SK, 306-233-4403.
