MACLEAN, James Murray – November 7, 1958 – February 18, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of a dearly loved man James Murray MacLean (Jamie), who died suddenly Thursday, February 18, 2021 at his home in Cow Bay, after a battle with COPD.
Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late James (Jim) Arnold and Doris Edna (Purcell) MacLean.
Jamie grew up in Purcell’s Cove and later in life he moved to Cow Bay with his soulmate, Julie MacCarthy, where he resided for 25 years until his passing.
Jamie worked in his early years at Bob MacDonald’s Chev Olds, Halifax, and for the past 30 plus years has worked in the cable industry for, Dartmouth Cable, Cabco, Access Cable, Shaw Cable and Eastlink.
In the early years, Jamie played hockey in Halifax and Kentville in the Metro Valley Junior Hockey League. He coached his nephews, Jayme and Jason, in Novice B and Bantam Triple A Chebucto minor hockey teams. Jamie was a die-hard Toronto Maple Leafs and Nascar fan.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was a kind, caring man and loved to tease and joke with whomever was in his presence. In the neighbourhood where he lived in Cow Bay, Jamie had a special connection with all the kids, who adored him, he spent many hours entertaining them.
Jamie loved nothing better than having a good time, cranking up the music of his favourite band, Pink Floyd, having a few beers or more with his next door neighbour, Larry, or going to Dalhousie, Lunenburg County, hunting and fishing with his friends, telling stories and having lots of laughs. Although in the last few years for health reasons he wasn’t able to do this but he always reminisced about those times.
Jamie is survived by his loving spouse, Julie MacCarthy, step-daughter, Sonya (Sean) Hansen, step granddaughter Kayleigh, who he adored; brothers, Tom (Sue), Roderick, Doug (Diane), Walter (Irene), Gary (Karen); sisters, Janne (Raymond) Robinson and Judy (Peter) Waldron, many nieces, nephews, brother-in-law and sisters-in law.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Edward Bruce (Ted).
Arrangements have been entrusted to Eastern Passage Community Funeral Home, Eastern Passage. It was Jamie’s wish that he be cremated. A private celebration with be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jamie may be made to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia, 6331 Lady Hammond Rd, Halifax, NS B3K 2S2.
