Obituary for
James “Jim” Alvin Fraser
On Thursday, June 10th, my father James “Jim” Alvin Fraser slipped peacefully from this world after a valiant four and a half month effort to recover from a severe stroke.
Jim, always a true gentleman, was a devoted husband of Ellamae, his wife or 57 years and always a steadfast husband, father, mentor and true compatriot to my mother, myself, his brothers and sisters and family on Mum’s side.
Born in New Glasgow on March 28th, 1941 to Dan and Charlotte (Lottie) (MacCulloch) Fraser. Jim moved with his family from Pictou Co. to Frankville Antigonish Co. and then to Oxford due to his father’s occupation with the railway. Immediately upon graduation from high school he entered a banking career with the Bank of Nova Scotia and retired as Branch Manager after spending 35 years in various locations throughout Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. For the next 5 years Jim provided mortgage application services for the Royal Bank in Truro, finally retiring to enjoy travel and working around his home. Throughout his banking career Jim was highly respected by his co-workers and clients alike for his integrity, work ethics and devotion to helping people.
He was a talented wood worker who loved to build things to give away to family members and friends. Dad truly enjoyed travelling throughout Canada and the US with mother and would return with many stories to tell about their interesting adventures.
Dad was a faithful member of St. James Presbyterian Church in Truro and served as a board member as well as treasurer.
Without question, Jim was a proud of his 23 years as a volunteer with the RCMP Auxiliary Constable program and was one of the first in Nova Scotia. He so cherished his experiences working night shifts and the close friendship made with various RCMP members through the province. Following his retirement from the Auxiliary program, he continued his affiliation with the force as a member of the RCMP Vets Association from which he recently received his 15 year pin.
Jim is survived by his wife Ellamae (Peppard); son Ian at home, sisters; Stella Wilkinson of Broadway, Marion MacNeil of Westville, Donelda Stewart of Stellarton and brothers; Don (Carol) of La Quinta California, Munroe (Jane) of Pictou, John (Jill) of Leesburg Florida, Vern (Angela) of Berwick. He was predeceased by his parents Dan and Lottie Fraser; sister Emma MacCulloch, three infant sisters as well as brothers-in-law James Peppard, Don Wilkinson, Cecil MacNeil and Morris Stewart.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro, due to the current COVID restriction funeral services will be for family only.
Donations in memory of Jim can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or Colchester Hospital Medical Foundation.
