James Clayton Pruden
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Mr. Clayton Pruden, age 79 years just short of his 80thbirthday, occurred on Friday, June 18, 2021 at RUH in Saskatoon. Clayton will be missed by his daughters Roxy (Rod) Johnston, Kerri (Mike) Fedyk, Son Kelly (Michelle LeClair) Pruden, Son Jimmy Pruden and daughter Prairie Dawn Pruden. He is also survived by his Grandchildren Michael Flegel (Katie) Flegel and great grandchild, Zac Flegel, and grandson Clarke Flegel. Grandson Kyle Bjornson (Steph Pink) and granddaughter Jenna Bjornson. Grandson: Clayton Charles Pruden (Samantha) and Great granddaughter Isla Pruden, Granddaughter Courtney Pruden and Great grandsons, Jordon, Zacharia and Deacon Brown.
He is predeceased by his parents, James Pruden, Mother Agnes (Nudal) Pruden, infant sisters and his beloved sister Donna Lee St. Louis. And many of his favourite Uncles and cousins.
Clayton as born on July 2, 1941 at Quill Lake, SK to James and Agnes (Nupdal) Pruden. He took his schooling in Wynyard, and in 1958 joined the Armed Forces and was in the PPCLI regiment. He was proud to be part of the PPCLI and of his father and uncle’s war time efforts. After being honourably discharged he eventually returned to the place he loved, the farm. He was also a talented and sought-after Welder and spent many years working industrial construction sites across Canada and the United States.
Clayton was a proud Metis man with a love for his horses and family history. He was most happy tending to his horses and being on his land. He was a passionate defender of Metis rights, land and protection of environment. The flooding and destruction of his land and that of his neighbours broke his heart and he fought for this land till his last days.
Clayton was a storyteller. He would regale you with old Metis tales of his dad and his uncle Tom trapping, hunting but most of all the mischief they would get up to! He always had stories about the good old days, including the Riel Rebellion and days long gone. He grew up in a tight knit family with Uncles, aunts and cousins that he missed dearly. The stories that came from that era are second to none! You sometimes felt like you were listening to a Wild West show. He was also very proud of his Icelandic heritage and cared very deeply for his Icelandic relatives.
Although he lived alone, he was never lonely, he had many friends who would stop out and visit him. For those that knew him, he loved to have a good time and his unique and infectious laugh could be heard in a crowded room. Clayton was the kind of guy that people loved to talk to. He had a kind heart and would give you the shirt off his back or help his fellow man when they needed it.
Dad, we love you and will miss you. What gives us solace is that you are at peace. We can see you laughing and visiting with all of your loved ones and now regaling them with all of the antics you got up to after they went on to the Spirit World! Forever in our hearts, you are definitely one of a kind.
A service will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion #101 Branch, 202 3rd St E, Wynyard, SK at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of Flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. www.cancer.ca/en/get-involved/events-and-participation/home-march/?region=sk
