It is with deep regret that the family of James Paul
Thompson, age 72, of Antigonish announce his passing on
December 18, 2021, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital,
Antigonish.
Born in Antigonish, he was a son of the late Terrence Bernard
and Dorothy O. (MacInnis) Thompson.
Paul was a great athlete, running track for the
Antigonish track and field club in his younger years with his siblings
at Columbus field and highland games. In his early career he was a
constable in the Antigonish town police force. Paul continued his
working career as a journeyman Ironworker/Welder and traveled to many
work sites across Canada and the Caribbean for his
trade. He loved his garden and finding the best fishing holes where
many stories were passed, with an uncanny memory for both true and
possibly untrue tales, always told with a smile.
He is survived by his children, daughter Michelle,
Calgary; and son, Craig (Candace), Calgary; much-loved grandchildren,
Sidney, Brett, Gavin, and Malia; siblings, Sandra Jardine (Tom),
Berwick; Wayne, Cloverville; Len (Bernadette), Halifax; Greg (Isabel),
Heatherton; sister-in-law, Barb Thompson; brothers-in-law, John
Swinkels and Phil Warren; as well as many nieces, nephews, and
cousins.
Predeceased by siblings, Gary, Terry (Gidget), Elizabeth
Warren, and Debbie Swinkels,
Special thank you to the nurses of St Martha’s PCU and
Palliative Care units for their kindness and dedication to Paul and
family during his final days.
Cremation has taken place, and a private graveside service
will be held in the spring.
In Memoriam, donations to St. Martha’s Regional
Hospital Foundation and the Canadian Cancer Society
appreciated.
