Iris Mary Hunter passed away peacefully on Mother’s Day, May 9, 2021.
Iris was born to Peter and Catherine Huron in Arnprior, Ontario, in 1930, the third of three children. After graduating high school in 1948, she was hired by the National Research Council in Ottawa, where she met and married her first husband Wes Hanna in 1954. They relocated to the Air Force Base in Cold Lake, Alberta where both of their children were born; Catherine Mary Hanna-Seed in 1955, and Walter John Hanna in 1959 (deceased).
When the family returned to Ontario, Iris completed her certification at Lakeshore Teacher’s College and taught at the Air Force Base in Trenton, Ontario. She spent the next 14 years teaching primary school, a profession she adored. After losing her son Wally in an accident in 1974, she divorced and remarried Alfred Ernest Hunter (deceased 2000) in 1976. Iris referred to Al as the love of her life, fortunately, they shared 25 wonderful years together.
On retirement, Al and Iris relocated from Toronto to Bearspaw Horizon Village, Edmonton in 1985, to join their family. They wintered in Edmonton (supplemented with many jaunts to Las Vegas and cruising) and summered at her favorite spot, the family cottage in Barry’s Bay, Ontario. Life was filled with many parties, golf, friends, and family.
Iris will be remembered as a person who conveyed happiness and joy to all those in her presence. She made friendships that lasted a lifetime, wherever she went. When she was diagnosed with dementia in 2011, her many friends wrote the hospital psychiatrist explaining her need for care. The Dr. remarked – this woman was “truly loved”, and that is so true!
In her 91 years on earth, she touched many lives deeply, and constantly spread love, and the joy of life without hesitation.
Iris is survived by her loving daughter, Catherine; her husband, Jack Seed; grandson, Michael and his wife Nadine Seed; great grandsons Erick and Parker Seed. She also leaves her granddaughter, Patti Smith and great granddaughters, Jillian and Kylie Smith.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Alzheimer Society in Iris’s memory would be appreciated. Iris will be cremated and interned with her late husband Alfred, and son Walter in Belleville, Ontario.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Iris Hunter 2021..
