Donald Earl Hindal 73, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, AB where he was a social worker until his retirement in 2016. Broken hearted by his sudden passing, are his wife Lynda Christianson, daughter Terina Henry (Randy), their three children Sarah Ans (Trevor), Adam (Robyn), Christian (Nicole); stepchildren Brad McCreedy, Marcy Delage (Martin) and their children Ben and Sophie, Matthew Schultz, Kathy Petruk (Eamon) and their daughter Lyra.
He was predeceased by his son Matthew in 2001.
Don was the youngest of three children predeceased by his parents Donald and Margaret Hindal. Also left to mourn his passing are his sisters Judy Jahnke (Fred) and Joanne Klassen (Ted) and his nieces and nephews.
Don was a big man with an even bigger heart. A man who had great respect for knowledge, Don was an avid learner. After relocating to Winnipeg in 1976, he trained as an electrician at CP Rail. He was gifted with the heart of a helper and used his skills as an electrician to help family and friends renovate their homes. His compassion led him to pursue a degree in Social Work at age 40. Shortly after the birth of his first grandchild Sarah, he relocated to Alberta so he could be closer to her and began his social work career in Grande Cache.
Don’s whole world changed when he met Lynda and together, they built a beautiful home in the woods near Alberta Beach where they enjoyed gardening, cycling, and walks with their beloved dogs, Buddy and Sabrina. In the last six years they have been so grateful to be close to their youngest grandchild Lyra and she has brought them so much joy.
Don will always be remembered for his big smile, hearty laugh, clever wit, warm hugs, and willingness to lend a hand with any project.
