Hillary’s Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Hillary Flynn announce his passing at the Bay St. George Long Term Care Centre in Stephenville Crossing on February 3rd, 2021 at the age of 77 years.
Hillary was a hard-working man who was known as a great carpenter and fisherman, having done both since he was just a boy. Never to have idle hands, he spent long days on the water from spring to summer and long days boat building in the fall and winter. He was a familiar face in the community, with his early morning walks. He was a man who said what was on his mind, who gave you 2 choices- take it or leave it- and wasn’t someone you wanted to knock heads with. But he was also a man who would help anyone in need, a man who believed in God and a man who loved more than any of us ever fully knew.
He defied the odds more times than one can count, with his wife often telling him to stop tempting fate; But his response to health was always the same- “When your number’s up, it’s your time and only the man upstairs controls that”, so he lived by that motto whole heartedly. Everyone who knew him knew he was always a practical joker. He was the most handsome man – old Hollywood stars would be jealous- and he was always a charmer. His devilish grin could always get a smile from his nurses.
He loved music and dancing and there was not enough CCR, Elvis or Simani to tire him out. And if you danced with him once, you were sure to be on the floor all night. He fought a hard battle but died peacefully when he was called home to God.
He will forever be in our hearts and would want to be remembered with a cold bottle of beer, a glass of whiskey and stories of his many shenanigans.
Special thanks to the staff at the BSGLTCC and to his “girls” as he affectionately called them. Please know he held you in high regard and never shied away from putting someone in their place if they said otherwise.
He leaves to mourn with many loving memories: children: Bertha (Joey) Collier, Bonnie (Mark) Flynn, Errol (Angelina) Flynn, and Erica (Jervis) Flynn; grandchildren: Keely Williams, Garrett Collier, Kelsey Collier, Hillary Flynn, and Danielle Flynn; great grandchild Makayla Williams; siblings: Gregory (Rose) Flynn, Christopher (Barb) Flynn, Esther Flynn, Veronica (Clyde) Benoit, Linda Flynn, and Shirley (Paul) Primeau; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.
Hillary was predeceased by: wife of 56 years Margaret; parents John and Bertha; siblings: John, Bertha, Freddy, John (Junior), Marjorie, and Patrick.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation will take place and a visitation will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish on Sunday, February 7th from 7-9 PM. from where the funeral service will also be held on Monday, February 8th at 10:30 AM. Interment to be held at a later date.
