It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Henrietta Sampson of Richmond County, Nova Scotia on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at the age of 86. Henrietta will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Joseph, her three children – John, Roger and Betty, her grandchildren Erica, David, Kate, Brittany, Brydan, Daniel, her great grandchildren– Mason and Landon. Henrietta had 4 other siblings – Ramond (brother), Betty (sister), Avo (brother) and her last living, loving brother, Albert Courte.
Henrietta was born in France in 1935 to her mother& father, Berthe and Henri Courte. She grew up raising cows, pigs, chickens and working in the orchard which kept her very busy. She received a scholarship in culinary schooling which helped her when she worked for a wealthy family in France – taking care of the house, children and the cooking for the family. She was also a seamstress and with her skills sewed clothing for all her family members. She entered singing competitions with her sister at the age of 17. Henrietta possessed a real green thumb as she also enjoyed plants and flowers and worked for the Government in a Tree Plantation Project in France. Her love for painting scenic pictures came later in life and she sold quite a few of her artwork. Henrietta was an extremely hard-working woman all her life and took great pride in her work.
At the age of 19, Henrietta met Joseph Arthur Sampson at a dance. Both of them quite shy, their friends brought them together. They dated and later married – Henrietta was 20 when she married Joseph. From that point on she lived and raised a family while Joseph served in the Air Force. They traveled around the world until Joseph purchased his retirement land, built a house in Lynches River, Nova Scotia for both of them to live out their lives. They were married for 65 years.
Anyone that had the pleasure of knowing Henrietta knew what a kind person she was. She was loving, caring, generous, compassionate, patient and friendly to all strangers, as well as a devoted mother and humanitarian. She always put everyone’s needs above her own and embodied a perfect example of the gentle soul we all strive to be. She has taught her children countless values to live by and her legacy lives on in her children and their children. Henrietta was very well liked and touched countless lives. She leaves a huge void in all our lives and will be greatly missed.
She is now peacefully resting in God arms and surrounded by all his angels. May you rest in peace now and know we will be together again one day. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Green’s Funeral Home, 507 Bernard St., Port Hawkesbury.
