Helen’s Obituary
Helen Lynn Orschy passed away at the Canora Gateway Lodge on September 7, 2021, at the age of 87 years.
Helen was born on May 29, 1934, in Alvena, SK, to Harry and Marie (Bobel) Melnyk. In 1952, she met and married Tony Orschy and they built a life on a farm near Rose Valley, SK. Together, Helen and Tony raised four children. Helen loved the farm life and she especially enjoyed being outdoors. In 1982, Helen and Tony bid goodbye to the farm and retired to Canora, SK.
In recent years, Helen suffered from and valiantly fought to overcome the effects of several strokes that took away much of her mobility. She became a resident of the Canora Gateway Lodge, where she continued to reside until her passing on September 7, 2021.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Memory Eternal – May she rest in peace.
Helen was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Marie Melnyk; her husband of 57 years, Tony Orschy; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Nick (Noreen) Melnyk and Paul (Ann) (Norma) Melnyk; her son, James Orschy; and her nephew, Terry Melnyk.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Scott) Flynn of Drayton Valley, AB, and their children: David (Sukhi) Flynn of Edmonton, AB, Nathan (Angie) Flynn of Drayton Valley, AB, and Tyson Flynn of Edmonton, AB; her daughter, Judy (Bob) Olynick of Morse, SK, and their children: Ryan (Natasha) Olynick of Morse, SK, Brad (Terra) Olynick of White City, SK, Kristen (Tim) Wirsche of Regina, SK, and Trevor (Brittany) Olynick of Regina, SK; her son, Don (Janice) Orschy of Moose Jaw, SK and Jamie Erz of Regina, SK; her grandchildren, Henry and Purnell Severight; and her great-grandchildren: Parker, Cutter, Huxton, Griffin, Holden, Aiden, and Arizona Olynick; and Tavin, Mekhi, and Carter Flynn; along with her niece, Teresa; and nephews: Michael, Allan, Mark, Robert, Gary, and Robin Melnyk; as well as extended family members and many friends.
Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 13, 2021, from Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Canora, SK, with Very Rev. Fr. Joakim Rac, as Celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow in the Canora Cemetery, Canora, SK. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Helen Orschy.
