My home is a peaceful haven.
Helen passed away at home, in her peaceful haven in Ottawa. She was predeceased by her parents Chester and Gertrude Butt, her brother Ken Butt, by her loving husband Robert Tyndall, and her eldest daughter Laurie. She is survived by her daughter Catherine, and her son Alan (Fiona) and her granddaughters Alison and Kelly.
Helen was a painter, a creator of beauty and a lover of colour. A founding member of Studio Ten Artists in Chatham, she enjoyed a lifetime of painting and warm friendships with fellow artists. Helen loved traveling and exploring new places throughout the world. Travel for Helen often included fellow artists painting landscapes, and she was at peace at the cottage on the French River where her brush lay down watercolours while sitting in the bow of the boat. She was a writer of poetry and verse, and expressed her love and flair for cooking in a weekly column she wrote for the Chatham newspaper.
Born in Pickering, she attended Ryerson (Home Economics) where she met Robert the love of her life. They moved to Chatham where they raised their family, were active in Victoria Avenue United Church, and became involved in the arts and culture scene. In her later years Helen moved to Ottawa to be closer to her children.
Helen will be missed but memories of her joy of life will always bring a smile and gentle comfort to all who were fortunate to have shared life with her.
A celebration of Helen’s life will be arranged at a later date by the family. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the National Gallery of Canada Foundation.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Helen Martha Tyndall Butt Wednesday February 17th 2021..
