Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Harry Dawson Cross on November 12, 2021, at the Saint John Regional Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born on March 20, 1937, to the late Kenneth and Minnie (Parks) Cross and was the loving husband to his wife of 32 years, Jane (Linton) Cross.
Harry worked at the Irving Refinery for 30 years, retiring as a Shift Supervisor. After retiring, he started mowing lawns and doing snow removal for friends which grew into having over 30 clients that he did year-round, right up until the COVID pandemic prevented him from continuing. Harry was a very giving man – being recognized for making over 1000 blood donations over the years, both whole blood and plasma, so that he could go more often. He volunteered with the West Side Food bank and Community Garden and was involved with the Saint John Theatre Company. He was very musical and was a member of many choirs, as well as the Men of Fundy – Rising Tide Quartet and the Setting Suns Quartet which was originally from Victoria Street Baptist Church. He and his wife, Jane, were involved in square dancing for many years. He was very faithful and was a lifelong member of Victoria Street Baptist Church/Main Street Baptist Church, which became RiverCross Church. Harry was a one-of-a-kind man, who was devout and devoted, kind and caring, generous and loving. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to meet him. He had a smile and kind word for everyone he met.
In addition to his wife, Jane, he is survived by his daughters, Lori (Stephen) LeBlanc and Hali (Jeff Cail) Cross; his sons, Kenneth (Stacey) Cross and Derek (Sarah) Cross; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; his sisters, Christina (Rod) Garnett, and Margaret (the late Keith Hall); along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his adored son, Christopher, his sisters, Deborah and Leona, and his former spouse, Joan.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424). Visitation will be held from RiverCross Church (61 Forbes Drive) on Wednesday, November 17 from 1-2pm with a memorial service to follow at 2pm. A private family interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens at a later date. For those who wish, memorial donations in his memory to RiverCross Church or the West Side Food Bank would be appreciated by his family. In keeping with Harry’s tradition, all those inclined, please consider making a donation of blood on his behalf. It goes a long way to help people in difficult situations in need of your giving spirit.
