Harold (Hal) William Killam
May 21, 1940 – May 2, 2021
After a lengthy illness, Hal passed peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Saint John, NB
He was the son of the late Thomas William and Bessie Louise (Wilson) Killam. He was predeceased by his parents, sisters Bernice Christie, Betty Burris, Helen Windsor, and a grandson, Jacob. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Killam, daughters Kimberly (the late Bob) and Cindy (Jules), as well as grandchildren Katy Brown (Justin Chatterton), Colton Brown, Meaghan Goeb, Lucas Goeb, and great-grandchildren Ava and Ben.
Hal was always involved in the local community, whether it was in Oshawa, or Saint John. He loved meeting new people, and always enjoyed being social.When he lived in Oshawa he was a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Oshawa Golf and Curling Club. After moving back to Saint John in 1979, he became very active in the community. The Kiwanis Club always held a special place in his heart, as did the Fundy Camera Club. Hal was instrumental in rejuvenating the ABEC, and became active in the Arts Community by serving on the Sheila Hugh MacKay Foundation, as well as Symphony NB. He was a huge supporter of Carolyn’s career in the art world. An avid photographer, Hal enjoyed travelling the world and documenting his experiences to share with family and friends. He was the life of the party, always telling stories, singing songs and reciting poetry, usually of his favourite poet, Robert Service.
Hal started working at Imperial Life back in the ‘60’s and to this day he still remains friends with some of his earliest clients. Leaving Imperial Life, he opened the first Money Concepts Franchise in Canada, here in Saint John. Hal always said that his clients were his friends, and that was his social life. He loved his work, not retiring until the age of 77 in 2017.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424). In keeping with Hal’s wishes, there will be no visitation, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
