HAROLD SITCH
June 10, 1929 – July 15, 2021
Harold Franklin Sitch passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 15, 2021 surrounded by loved ones.
Harold is survived by his wife Irene (nee Lane); daughters Linda (Costa), Casey Stilla (Albert), and foster daughter Ruthie; grandchildren Jennifer, Chad, Kayla, and Brooke; great grandchildren Kaylee, Hunter, Parker, Hayley, and Colten.
Harold was predeceased by his parents Hulda and George Sitch, brother and sister-in-law Art and Margaret, sister Barbara and son-in-law Tony Costa.
Harold was born on June 10, 1929 in the village of Hymers. A few stories of mischief during the early years have been shared over the years.
Harold has had many jobs throughout his years. At the age of fifteen, he drove a truck into Port Arthur to get his drivers licence so he could work as a truck driver. A man of many talents, he has been a groundskeeper, superintendent, bookkeeper, logger and maintenance man. He sometimes held down two jobs at a time and was still able to be a supportive husband and father. Harold also use to fix old cars and resell them, but if you were to ask him what his greatest achievement was, he would say without pause “Marrying my best friend and soulmate.”
In his retirement, Harold continued with maintenance work and was always handy with a paint brush. He traded a big brush for a smaller one and his paintings are displayed in family homes. Harold was a Mr. Fix it and had the patience to repair instead of replace. Harold did not have a specific religious denomination, but he lived his life with a Christian attitude. He was always there with a helping hand for friends, family and strangers alike. Nothing fancy, just common sense. He set the example for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren how to be kind and patient. Harold also found time for hunting, fishing and camping, with family and friends. Those memories live on with the younger hunters. This is the end of Harold’s journey but the lessons of love, laughter and respect that he has left us with will be carried on by all who met him.
A special heartfelt thank you to St. Joseph’s Hospice Staff, Regional Hospital 2B, everyone involved in MAID and the staff of Everest who assisted in making Harold’s final journey one of
peace and tranquility.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 332 North May Street, Thunder Bay.
