On Saturday, June 5, 2021, Hans slipped away peacefully, with his daughters by his side, to be reunited with his loving wife Margaret. He will be missed and loved forever.
Hansgeorg Paul Rutz was born October 27, 1933 in Breslau, Germany to Georg and Erna Rutz. The oldest of three boys, he grew up during WWII and lived a life of multiple situations that forced him to reinvent himself and forge on. He emigrated to Canada in May 1953 landing in southern Alberta to work on various farms. It was on one of these farms he met his future wife and love of his life Margaret Brown. They married in 1959 and were together just shy of 51 years. They had four daughters and eight grandchildren. Dad was a person of intelligence and integrity. He served as a counselor for the County of Lethbridge for many years. He also farmed at the same time, often getting up early to do the chores, going to meetings all day and coming home late. He was a long-time member of the Elks of Canada and the Masons. Public service was a job he took seriously and did to the highest of standards.
His greatest job and joy in life was his family. He and mom travelled to many places over the years. In his mind travel was never a waste of money but an investment in memories. They made sure their daughters each went to Germany to meet and see his family and experience life in his homeland. It was a gift he gave us all.
He is survived by his four daughters Lorraine (Stuart) Kirk, Sandi Rutz, Karen (Adam Warrell) Burton and Deanna (Kevin) Rath; Grampa to Laura, Kimberley, Robyn, Bailey, Rhys, Jeanne and Veronica. Mirra and Del Olsen are dear friends of his as well as family. His brother Albert will fondly remember him as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his precious Margaret as well as grandson Nicholas who will be so excited to be sitting back on grampas lap. Both his parents, brother Peter and sister-in-laws Susanne and Christa will be there to see him again.
Our dad was a strong, loving, sassy, smart, hard-working and compassionate man. The hole he leaves in our hearts is soothed knowing his is free of pain and in the arms of the ones we loved who went before him.
We will be okay dad. You can rest now. We love you.
A private family service will take place at a later date. Cremation has been entrusted to Martin Brothers Funeral Chapels.
Flowers are gratefully declined. If you wish please make a donation in his name to the Arthritis Society, 10109 106 St, Edmonton, AB T5J 3L7, as it had a great impact on all our lives.
