Obituary of Gwenethe Norminton
Gwenethe Maryann Norminton (nee Hunter) passed away quietly in her sleep at home on the morning of December 24th 2021. She recently celebrated her 82nd birthday with family at her home at Carleton Lodge in Ottawa after the amazing staff at the Queensway Carleton Hospital gifted her with a few extra days. Daughter of Doris and Alex Hunter of Sarnia, Gwen went on to study Physics and Math at Western University at the age of 17. She taught in Forest Ontario, and after marrying Ted, she went on to teach high school in Etobicoke and Ottawa as well as a brief stint as a sessional lecturer at Carleton University. However, her proudest role was as mother to her two sons, grandmother to her five grandchildren, and sister to Jim, his wife Sue and their family.
Gwen was caring and compassionate and went out of her way for what was right. Throughout her life she brought joy to those around her, celebrating every occasion, playing the piano while she could and truly getting to know the people around her. Gwen will rest at Highland Park Cemetery and a celebration of Gwen’s life will take place when restrictions allow.
A thank you to the wonderful people at Carleton Lodge Long Term Care who were like family to her.
Donations in lieu of flowers to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Royal Ottawa Foundation for the Royal Ottawa Hospita l would be appreciated.
