Obituary of Gurdip Singh Brar
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our pyara Gurdip. Always a consummate gentleman, kind hearted, and a friend to many, Gurdip was an amateur historian, linguist, an avid reader, an afficionado of Indian poetry (ghazals), and raconteur. His love of telling stories was surpassed only by the love he had for his dear late wife Jagjit. He was the beloved father of Gurinder (Neelam) and Deepinder (Susan), and Papa to Jeevan, Pavan, Arun, and Anisa. Gurdip immigrated from India to Canada in 1959, where he lived in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia for a time, and where he leaves behind a caring extended family. He eventually settled in Montréal, working steadily at a variety of jobs to support his family, and building a strong foundation for future generations. Gurdip was a generous and welcoming person who opened his home to family, friends, and even strangers starting a new life in Canada. In keeping with his philosophy of supporting newcomers to the country, memorial donations may be made to the New Canadians Centre; nccpeterborough.ca/support-the-ncc/donate-now/ as expressions of sympathy. We extend our gratitude to the staff at Lakefield Extendicare and The Regency of Lakefield for the wonderful care and support they provided to Gurdip in his later years. A private family service will take place on Tuesday, September 7, 2021.
