It is with broken hearts that we announce that Gordon Dunphy, formerly of St. Lawrence, aged 64 years, passed away at home on August 19, 2021.
Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of memories and experiences is his wife of almost 42 years, Jocelyn (Ducey, R.N.); his children Melissa (William) Burton, Lori (Matthew) McKay, Mark (Meghan) Dunphy, and Allison (Evan) Kent; his six beloved grandchildren – Nash McKay, Hailey Dunphy, Moxy McKay, Aspen Kent, Ethan Dunphy, and Leif Burton; his siblings – Velma Smith, Goldie (Wish) Farrell, Joyce (Gerald) Mallay, Dave (Donna) Dunphy, Shane (Diane) Dunphy, Darin (Sherrie) Dunphy; special Uncle Joe (Mariette) Dunphy; stepfather Bob Morrisey; brothers and sisters-in-law – Derek (Jeanette) Ducey, Theresa Ducey (Glenn Pitcher), Mary Lou (Eric) Short, Ruth (Wally) Peddle, Al (Shirley) Ducey; and a large circle of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Predeceased by parents Gordon Sr. and Patricia; brother Gerard (Anne, deceased); nephew Richard Smith; and father-in-law Aloysius Ducey.
The family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. S. Quigley, Dr. S. Rorke, Dr. S. Price, Dr. P. Collingwood, Dr. L. Rogers, Dr. V. Sahajpal and the many health care professionals that we met along this journey. Our heartfelt gratitude to Community Health Nurse, April Adams, who provided invaluable assistance and compassion.
We would like to mention his Tim’s coffee buddies, whose friendship he cherished and whose love and support were so important to him, in particular Ford Hibbs.
Our appreciation to Father Frank Puddister, who visited weekly; Sister Betty Morrisey and Sister Marcella Grant.
To the Newfoundland and Labrador soccer community – thank you for the regular check-ins and the years of fun and excitement you provided him. His deep passion for every aspect of the sport was a family affair and we hope his legacy inspires generations of soccer lovers to come.
Visitation at Caul’s Funeral Home in St. John’s on Saturday, August 21 from 11:30am to 9:00pm.
Visitation at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in St. Lawrence on Monday, August 23, from 10:00am-12:00pm, 2:00pm-5:00pm, and 7:00pm-9:00pm with the wake vigil being held at 8:00pm.
Funeral mass to be held at the St. Lawrence Recreation Center in St. Lawrence on Tuesday, August 24 at 10:00am. Burial will follow at Mount Cecilia Cemetery in St. Lawrence. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the funeral mass will be limited to 300 people. After family, it will be on a first come, first served basis. While we know masking is not mandatory, we respectfully request that if possible, people wear a mask until seated.
Donations can be made in his memory to the Mary Queen of Peace Food Bank (St. John’s) or Mount Cecilia Cemetery Fund (St. Lawrence).
