GORD April 26 1944

Obituary
William Gordon Mills – Gord passed away peacefully on September 25th, 2021 at Campbellford Memorial Hospital after a brave struggle with Alzheimer’s. He was 77 years old.
Gord is predeceased by his parents George and Annie (Parkhurst), his brothers George, Don and Emerson and his sister Margaret MacDonald. He is survived and greatly missed by his wife Lana Taylor, his son Sean, his daughter Deana & her husband Chris Flynn and three grandchildren Joey, Jimmy and Jackie. He is also survived by his children Chelsea and Ashton and will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Gord was a photographer and photo lab owner in the city of Toronto for many years but he preferred life in the country. He learned survival skills in the bush and loved fly fishing, hunting and foraging in the wild for edible woodland plants. More than anything, he had a passion for gardening and masterfully designed the most beautiful perennial gardens that bloomed from early spring to late fall. He was coerced into loving peonies by Lana and tended to thousands of them on their property in Morganston for their nursery business Peonies From The Field. Throughout his life he had and dearly loved many pets, even Lana’s horses, and they loved him back. He is missed by his cat Clouseau and Golden Retrievers Wally, Wilbur and Orville. Gord loved movies, particularly old black and white films, and as his disease progressed, he spent many hours watching Turner Classic Movies because he couldn’t stand commercials. He enjoyed having a beer by the fireplace at cocktail hour with Lana or spending an evening with his good friend Tim listening to music by Gordon Lightfoot and Bob Seger. He was charming, determined to enjoy life and could be counted on to find some humor in almost any situation. The mischievous twinkle in his eye remained even after much of his memory had deserted him.
Thank you to SE Health PSW’s Shannon, Diana and others for their good and kind in-home care and for putting up with Gord’s shenanigans. Thank you to the staff at Warkworth Place. Although Gord’s stay there was not long, for a little while it was home. Lastly, thank you to the wonderful doctors and nursing staff at Campbellford Memorial Hospital. They made good on their promise that Gord would be made and kept comfortable to the peaceful end.
A Celebration of Gord’s Life will be held in November. Donations in Gord’s memory can be made to Campbellford Memorial Hospital or the Alzheimer Society of Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland & Haliburton. Fond memories and stories can be shared online at www.weaverfuneralhomes.com.
