Gloria Alvina Short Saturday June 12th 2021 avis de deces

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Gloria Short (nee Lemoine) of Truro, NS on June 12, 2021. Gloria was predeceased by her beloved husband, E. John Short of Truro, NS. She is survived by her loving sons and their families: E. John Short, PEng, MBA, of Edmonton, AB, wife, Heather and grandchildren, James and Hilary; W. Bruce Short, BMedSc, MD, FRCPC, of Bible Hill, NS, wife, Elizabeth and grandchildren, Tessa, Molly and Katie.
Gloria was born to parents, Mary and William Lemoine into a large family in Curling, Nfld of which she was the final surviving member. She enjoyed an active life with many close friends growing up in the Corner Brook region during the years of WWII. She was an avid skier at the Blomidon Ski Club, loved swimming and was an accomplished badminton and tennis player representing Corner Brook at a tennis tournament in Grand Falls. She received an award for her prowess in completion of a course in Shorthand and Bookkeeping with the Nuns in Petries, Nfld and received high praise and glowing references from all her employers, including the manager of Bowater Paper in Corner Brook.
After their marriage, she and John moved to Montreal for John to study at McGill. She enjoyed life in Montreal immensely and gave birth to her two sons there. She and John returned to St. John’s, Nfld where they enjoyed their halcyon years having a wide circle of friends and family. Gloria was always active socially and in her community. As a member of Beta Sigma Phi, she was awarded Girl of the Year. Active in the Grace General Hospital Auxiliary, she eventually became President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Hospital Auxiliaries. A member of Bally Haly Country Club, she was an active curler and golfer.
She moved with John to Truro in 1978 when he became president of Wilson’s Equipment. She and John travelled extensively through the United States, Europe and the Orient. Gloria continued her work joining the Auxiliary of the Colchester Regional Hospital which recognized her with an award for years of service. It was Gloria who coined the name “Hub Bub” for the annual hospital fundraising fair. She enjoyed golfing at the Truro Country Club and curling. Gloria also loved oil painting on an easel built for her by beloved husband. A skilled, lifelong bridge player, she was always an eager participant in the Bridge Marathon of Truro. For many years, she and John enjoyed many friends and family in their summer home on Shortt’s Lake where she delighted her grandchildren with skinny-dipping after dark. Gloria was an excellent cook and an enthusiastic and entertaining host to all friends and family who always enjoyed delicious food and a jolly time at her well set table.
Gloria will always be remembered for her energy and her enthusiasm for creating joy when gathered with those she loved. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She deeply loved her husband, John, whom she has missed daily since his passing in 2014 and whom she has longed to join through her recent years of declining health. We are all deeply saddened by the loss of her passing, but we will always remember our love for her and take comfort in knowing that Gloria is once again reunited with her beloved and is now at peace.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Gloria’s memory may be made to a charity of choice. A private family service will be held on Friday, June 18, 2021. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, NS. Online condolences available at www.ColchesterCommunity.com
