Gladys Olive Malcolm nee Dean November 3 1922 May 1 2021

Gladys Olive Malcolm (nee Dean) passed away peacefully on May 1, 2021 in Victoria. She was born on November 3, 1922 in Edmonton. Olive was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Robert. She will be greatly missed by her children, Russell, Edeana (David), Gayle (Gerry), Margo, and Adele, as well as family and friends.
Olive was a kind and loving grandmother to Amelie, Jeremie (Nina), Julie (Jacek), Geoffrey (Nicole), Christina (Brian), Ryan (Julia), Tamara (Chris), Matthew (Morgan), Stefanie (Kaurwn), and Carissa. She especially loved seeing her great-grandchildren, Sarah, Ryan, Sophie, Felix, Emily, Benjamin, and Campbell.
Olive grew up in Edmonton. At seven she was sent for a year to Steep Creek, Saskatchewan to live on her aunt’s farm for her health, a profound experience in her early life. She was an active girl who scandalized her father by getting a black eye playing hockey. She attended Edmonton’s Victoria High and worked in her family’s grocery store. In her 20s, during WWII, she left Edmonton, first going to Whitehorse to work for the American Army during Alaska Highway construction, then to Washington DC to work for the British on coded communications. After the war, she moved to Victoria, worked at the dockyard, met and married Bob. For the next three decades, she devoted herself to her family. Olive never lost her wanderlust and in retirement, she traveled the world with Bob, family and friends. Her last adventure was to Tahiti in 2018 at the age of 96.
