Memorial Donation
It is with great sorrow, we announce the passing of George Remi Allaer on August 5, 2021 at the Wallaceburg hospital medical site. Our family will never be the same without him but we are
very grateful for the love and life lessons this beautiful man left everyone he touched. George
was finally able to be surrounded by his family and friends after cruel and lengthy isolations in
LTC due to COVID restrictions. We want to acknowledge and thank the excellent medical staff,
doctors, nurses, paramedics who did everything they could to make dad comfortable at the
Wallaceburg Medical site. Their kindness and endless efforts including the the security guards
and custodian as well as other staff that helped to make George, his family and friends
comfortable ensuring that every possible support was in place. This will never be forgotten.
George was 88 years old, born November 12, 1932. Son of the late Philemon Allaer and late
Maria Goessens-Allaer. He was born in in Denderhoutem, Belgium, a place he was very proud
of and loved to the day he died. His parents purchased a small farm in 1932, the year he was
born and lived with his brothers until 1948 when his family emigrated to Canada. Even though
he loved Canada, he was always Flemish at heart.
George was dedicated to his family. He loved his wife Marion Dostal-Allaer of 63 years and
referred to her as,“my Marion.” He was a cherished father to Carl Allaer and Lucinda Allaer
(David Sidenberg). Doting grandfather to Jason Allaer, Jeff Allaer, Jamie Allaer, William Judson,
(Elizabeth Judson) and fun loving great-grandfather to Ameleeya Judson whom he adored.
George also dearly loved his late brothers Gaston Allaer (Leopodean Allaer), Lucian Allaer (late
Diane Blair-Allaer), Willy Allaer (late Henrietta Allaer-Knowles), Franc “Frank” Allaer (Eileen
Blair/Allaer). He also loved his extended family here in Canada and Belgium.
George was a talented spray welder, farmer and entrepreneur – always involved with ongoing
projects. One project involved him planting many trees in the Wallaceburg area. He loved being
outdoors and living on the farm with his son Carl and grandchildren.
George had a wicked sense of humour and was always laughing, joking and pranking his
friends and family. He just loved life and had many passions and talents. He was a great
musician playing both guitar and harmonica. After being a lifetime fan of the Chicago
Blackhawks he fell in love with Tampa Bay Lighting passionately cheering them to this years
Stanley cup! George always loved his vehicles and had some pretty sweet rides. He enjoyed
performing magic tricks and was well known in Wallaceburg, especially at McDonald’s, where
children would flock to see him. He had a big personality that filled every room he entered. He
knew famous people but to him they were just friends to have fun with. There was always room
at his table for someone in need and he was always helping out a friend or doing something to
support others or wildlife. George raised and raced pigeons with his brother Frank Allaer and
father Philemon Allaer winning many accolades and trophies.
George was also a great storyteller inspiring his daughter Lucinda and great-granddaughter
Ameleeya to become writers. His daughter never left his side and telling him bedtime stories his
last night holding him with us. His bedtime stories of the little birdies safe away from the
antagonist bad cat, told from the perspective of a pigeon racer, will continue on for generations
to come. George had the profound ability to simplify life. He would say things like, “Never regret
anything that makes you smile.” or “You are only dead if everyone forgets you” George you will
never be forgotten. Our memories of you will continue to light up the room. The words on his
favourite hat say it best, “Belgian, and good looking, oh where will it end?”
